Melinda who is the wife of Bill Gates one of the world’s wealthiest man, and also the co-founder of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. She worked at Microsoft, where she was project manager for Microsoft Bob,Microsoft Encarta and Expedia before becoming a full time philanthropist and social activist.

Melinda has been described as one of the world’s famous social activist “who is trying to serve the people in ignorance.” She is pictured with a 20-litre bucket of water on her head alongside two other Malawian women, walking on an untarred road. She was also pictured washing some plates with one of the Gawanini family member in the village she visited in Malawi.

Talking about her experience in Malawi, Melinda said:

“During my stay with the Gawanini family in Malawi, I joined the women collecting drinking water. I carried 20 litres and it was tough. Meanwhile Chrissy (pictured in the middle) was carrying about 40 litres. Many women do this everyday”

She also speaked about her dish-washing experience, she said: “Helping wash the dishes during my homestay in Malawi. Women spend much of the day cooking and then cleaning up. It’s a reminder that it’s a lot more time consuming to do dishes when you can’t just turn on a faucet”
