Al-Makura Steps Into Second Tenure With Zero Debt Profile

Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa State has kick-started his second tenure in office with zero debt profile having cleared the bad debt he inherited from his predecessor,  Alhaji Aliyu Akwe Doma.
According to leadership news Nigeria Governor Al-Makura had upon assumption of office in 2011 inherited a debt profile of over N37 billion which he settled in his first three years in office

Within this period the Nasarawa State government also secured N10 billion bond from the capital market which he also payed back within a year to leave a clean bill for any incoming administration.
Giving reasons for his action to leave a clean bill of debt profile, Governor Al-Makura said "the common man was the eventual victim of any debt incurred by government and as a crusader for the downtrodden he views debts as conspiracy against the poor".
“Whether I was going to win re-election or not I vowed within myself not to leave any debt for the incoming administration because at the end of the day it is the common that suffers,” he said.
He said any loan procured by government should be tied down to specific projects that have direct bearing on the plight of the poor who are expectant of goodwill from government.
