PMB summon for the Inaguration of 8th national Assembly as reported by Daily trust

According to Daily Trust President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered a proclamation for the summoning of the 8th National Assembly.

A copy of the proclamation order sighted yesterday by Daily Trust indicates that the next Assembly will be inaugurated on June 9 next Tuesday.
The president said the proclamation was in accordance with the provisions of section 64(3) of the 1999 constitution which empowers him to summon the 8th session of the National Assembly.

Section 64(3) of the 1999 constitution states thus: “Subject to the provisions of this Constitution, the person elected as the President shall have power to issue a proclamation for the holding of the first session of the National Assembly immediately after his being sworn in, or for its dissolution as provided in this section.”
With the formal proclamation issued by the president, both Senate and House of Representatives will be inaugurated next Tuesday by the Clerk to the National Assembly, Alhaji Salisu Abubakar Maikasuwa.
The elections of presiding officers of both chambers will also take place the same day.

The Senate Presidency is being contested by Senators Ahmad Lawan (APC, Yobe) and Bukola Saraki (APC, Kwara); the House Speakership, between Yakubu Dogara (APC, Bauchi) and Femi Gbajabiamila (APC, Lagos) after Lawal jubrin stepped down to endorse Hon. Yakubu Dagora for the interest of the party. The contest is now open for the Apc lawmakers but the principal decision to who becomes the President of the Senate and Speaker of the House solemnly depends on the vote of the member of chambers respectively.
